The following exercises belong to a category of so-called SOVT or semi-occluded vocal tract exercises. It means that there is a partial closure or narrowing somewhere in the vocal tract. Sometimes, this narrowing is at the front of your mouth, sometimes itβs further back in your mouth.
Get rid of tension for good, reduce your perception of pain when speaking and build a strong voice that lasts. Join our group coaching program.
The narrowing that helps your voice work more efficiently is at the front of the mouth. Plus you can feel lots of vibrations in your lips and teeth.
The straw is what makes these exercises so amazing. The narrowing of the straw creates a back pressure that is reflected back at the vocal folds. This is what helps them vibrate more freely.
Humming is like exercising in the pool. The pressures below and above the vocal cords are equalized, which creates an optimal environment for the vocal cords to vibrate. They vibrate with less effort and impact.
This exercise is one of the most versatile exercises that allows you to make sounds without straining, with less vocal effort but more efficiency. The added bonus - a high tongue position, which creates space for the larynx to move freely.
This exercise is not an SOVT exercise but it is the most relaxing sound you can make if done correctly. This is a therapeutic sound that many people don't know about.
All of the above exercises are only a few examples of what I teach my clients in our group coaching program VOCAL FREEDOM SYSTEM FOR THE SPEAKING VOICE. Join us to build a strong speaking voice without tension. Click the button to learn more.
