EXERCISE #1: The TH Sound

Voiced fricatives, like the TH sound, are great vocal as well as airflow exercises. They support efficient vibrations of the vocal folds, and balance the work of the breathing muscles, which means that you make sounds without tension. Yes, this is an exercise to improve vocal function and decrease strain or tension put on the vocal folds. Added bonus of the TH sound is getting the root of the tongue out of the way.

EXERCISE #2: Flare the Nostrils

Head and neck anchoring exercises may be the perfect antidote for strained muscles. Support the little muscles in your voice box by engaging the larger muscles of the head and neck. This simple exercise works wonders for many people.

Why Did I Choose This Exercise?

Let the picture explain the reason for my choice. A little "trick" that makes a huge difference in voices of many people. These are just a few comments from our members.

EXERCISE #3: Trap Release

Manual approach to release tension from the trapezius muscles. Physical tension in the muscles close to your voice box can affect the vocal function. Release tension from these muscles even before you start using your voice. It's simple, use your own hands. I am a big believer in self-massage to release unwanted tension from the muscles of your body and around the voice box.

OMG it works!

I often hear this or read in the comments from my followers. Trap release is just one example of manual approaches to releasing tension. There are other body parts from which you can release tension with your own hands. If you have muscle tension, you will be saying "OMG, it works!" after manual exercises.

BONUS VIDEO

Exercises for practicing independent movements of different structures in the vocal mechanism are the key in releasing tension from your voice. Tension is created when too many muscles work at the same time unnecessarily. Learn how to move different structures independently of each other and you release tension when speaking. Here is one example of such exercises!

All of the above exercises are only a few examples of what I teach my clients in our group coaching program VOCAL FREEDOM SYSTEM FOR THE SPEAKING VOICE. Join us to build a strong speaking voice without tension. Click the button to learn more.
